The extensive renovation of Turku City Hall and the surrounding buildings is moving forward. The partners for the collaborative alliance project have been selected.
The project covers Turku City Hall and six other culturally and historically valuable buildings. The project is shifting into implementation phase, and construction is expected to begin in 2026, with total costs estimated between €30.5 and €34.4 million.
A historic landmark brought to life
The City Hall will continue to serve as the meeting place for the city council and decision-makers. The other buildings in the block are planned to be converted into office spaces for city employees, while the courtyard area will be developed into an open and functional part of the city’s public space.
– The City Hall block is an integral part of Turku’s historic public urban landscape and an important landmark for residents. I am delighted that we have secured skilled partners for the project who understand its value, said Mari Virtanen, Project Manager at the City of Turku, in Rakennuslehti newspaper on April 10, 2025.
Project partners selected
Rakennustoimisto Laamo has been appointed as the project management contractor, while architectural and interior design will be led by the Turku-based LPR Architects. Boost Brothers Ltd has acted as the client’s procurement specialist in the project, ensuring that the experts with the right skills and sensitivity to the site’s unique character were selected for both planning and execution.
– It is a great honor to collaborate with the City of Turku on such a unique project. The cooperation has been excellent, and the client has a clear vision of the project’s objectives. The partners now selected form a skilled and committed team, fully equipped to meet the site’s demanding requirements, said Petro Pöyhönen from Boost Brothers.
The project centers on protected buildings dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Renovation and restoration work will be carried out in close collaboration with the Finnish Heritage Agency and local building supervision authorities.
– This is a demanding project that requires experience in restoration, heritage-sensitive design, and technically challenging solutions. In selecting partners, we emphasized not only expertise but also the ability to collaborate and the willingness to commit to the project’s goals, Pöyhönen added.
