The extensive renovation of Turku’s City Hall block has also been featured in the industry media (Rakennuslehti, April 2, 2026), and the project is currently in the development and implementation phases. This is an exceptionally large-scale project involving the simultaneous renovation of seven historic buildings, the construction of one new building, and the redevelopment of the courtyard area.
The City of Turku is the client for the project.
The project is significant in scale and technically demanding: the foundations of several buildings are being reinforced with deep pile foundations, and the work is being carried out in a dense urban environment and at protected sites. The buildings date from different eras and vary in structure, making the design and implementation particularly multifaceted.
The project as a whole requires precise coordination between the various design disciplines, the construction process, and the client’s objectives. At the same time, modern building services must be integrated into the historic structures, which further increases the project’s complexity.
The project will be carried out as a collaborative project management contract and will proceed in phases between 2025 and 2028.
