The Board of Directors of the City of Helsinki Public Transport Authority has decided to select Kreate Oy as the partner for the renovation of the Junatie Metro Bridge. The decision was made on October 3, 2025, and the project will be carried out between 2026 and 2027 between Kalasatama and Sörnäinen.
The ordering party for the project is Helsinki Metropolitan Area Public Transport Ltd, which is responsible for developing the metro, tram, and city bike systems in the Helsinki metropolitan area. Boost is serving as the client’s procurement expert on the project, responsible for planning the procurement process, evaluating bids, and supporting the decision-making process.
The project is moving into the development phase
Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd put the contract out to bid on behalf of the Helsinki City Transport. Kreate Oy, which submitted the most economically advantageous bid, was selected as the partner for the renovation of the Junatie Metro Bridge.
Factors influencing the selection included the bidder’s ability to develop an implementation solution that minimizes disruptions to traffic and the environment caused by construction.
The project will now move on to the development phase, during which Helsinki Metropolitan Area Public Transport Ltd, the project management contractor Kreate, and the rest of the project team will jointly plan the implementation details and ensure the project progresses smoothly into the construction phase. Preparatory work is scheduled to begin in late spring 2026, once the Helsinki City Council has approved the project plan.
Temporary changes to metro service expected in 2027
Due to the bridge renovation, metro service between the Kulosaari and Hakaniemi stations will be suspended for more than half a year in 2027. In addition, the Kalasatama station will be closed for approximately half a year before the suspension and half a year after it.
HSL is planning alternative transportation arrangements, such as a bus route between Hakaniemi and Herttoniemi, as well as increased frequency on several bus routes. The Crown Bridges Light Rail connection is expected to be operational before the suspension and will support eastbound transportation links.

A Significant Part of Helsinki’s Rail Network Renewal
The Junatie Metro Bridge is part of a broader development of rail transport in the Helsinki metropolitan area, with the goal of improving connections and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the metro for decades to come.
The project is linked to several concurrent initiatives, such as the Crown Bridges Light Rail and the renovation of the Itäkeskus metro station. Helsinki City Transport reports that residents and stakeholders in the area are being actively informed about the project’s progress and traffic arrangements.
