The construction of Hailuoto Causeway started

The construction of Hailuoto Causeway started in May 2024. Boost Brothers worked as a construction management specialist during the bidding and development phase of the project. Boost also worked as the safety coordinator during the development phase and will continue as the safety coordinator throughout the project’s implementation phase as well.

The contract for the implementation phase of the Hailuoto Causeway was signed on April 29, 2024. With that, the development phase of the project ended, and construction work began.

– It’s great to start construction work after a long development phase. The project has a challenging construction environment that sets special requirements for safe implementation, says safety coordinator Tuomo Takkinen from Boost Brothers.

The large-scale project significantly shortens travel time

Hailuoto is the third largest island in Finland located in Northern Ostrobothnia. The new road connection to be built in Hailuoto replaces the current ferry connection between Riutunkari in Oulu and Huikku in Hailuoto. The new connection consists of over 8 kilometers long causeway section and the long bridges of Huikku and Riuttu.

The new connection is expected to shorten the travel time from the mainland to Hailuoto from about half an hour to about eight minutes.

It is estimated that the construction works of the project will last two and a half years. Thus, the Hailuoto Causeway would be available by the end of 2026.
